Does a Chiropractic adjustment hurt?

An adjustment should not hurt. Some people may feel a great sense of relief and a rush of endorphins, the bodies feel good hormones right after an adjustment.

What is the popping sound I hear when getting adjusted?

The popping sound is called a cavitation and it is the body releasing nitrous gases built up in the joint. The popping sound does not always have to occur for the bones to go back into alignment.

How do you know which bones to adjust?

Dr. Bovee uses a combination of instrumentation, skin changes, visualization, static and motion palpation and X-rays if available to specifically locate the involved area. The instruments that help to locate  the potential areas of involvement are called the nervoscope and the DT-25.

What is a typical office visit like?

The first visit is a physical exam, similar to the general exams you have when you visit your medical doctor. Then every visit you have a chiropractic checkup where the Doctor looks at your posture, runs the nervoscope down your back, and feels for restriction of movement in the spine. Then you get adjusted. Soft tissue therapy is offered for those that need it.

How long does a visit take?

The first visit can take up to 30 minutes because of the physical exam, but all other visits are around 15 minutes. If you need soft tissue therapy it could take up to 30 minutes.

FAQ

How often should I get my spine checked?

Just like the dentist recommends one check up every 6 months, Chiropractors recommend one visit a month for general wellness. Just like you take your car in for an oil change and tune up, you should also give your body a tune up.  If you have an injury or long term pain, an increase in frequency is recommended depending on the patient.
